Become a Region 8 Governor
Thinking about running for Region 8 Governor or Director? Follow these steps to prepare your application and ensure you meet all ASCE requirements.
π Application Materials
All materials must be submitted in Word document format and should follow the templates provided below.
Before submitting, make sure you have all of the following:
β Letter of Intent - A signed statement declaring your intent to run for Region 8 Governor. (Template)
β Biographical Statement - Summarize your ASCE leadership, professional experience, and community involvement (Not to exceed 200 words) (Template)
β Vision Statement - Outline your goals and priorities for Region 8 and how you plan to serve ASCE members. (Not to exceed 200 words.) (Template)
β Headshot Photo - A color, professional head-and-shoulders photo suitable for publication in election materials.

What are the primary responsibilities of a Region 8 Governor?
Help guide the direction of Region 8 by serving on the Board of Governors and shaping regional initiatives.
Be a bridge between members and ASCE society leadership, making sure the voices of our Sections, Branches, and local groups are heard.
Stay connected with members across the region through visits and support for Sections, Branches, student chapters, technical groups, and Younger Member groups.
Represent Region 8 proudly by attending and contributing to leadership meetings, conferences, and Society events.
Come prepared and engaged for meetings and discussions, bringing your energy and ideas to the table.
What is the time commitment of a Region 8 Governor?
Fall Board of Governors Meeting and Assembly Meeting (3 Days + Travel)
Winter Board of Governors Meeting (1 Day + Travel)
Region Multi-Region Leadership Conference (2 Days + Travel) (same timeframe and location as winter assembly)
Monthly Board of Governors Meeting (1 hour * 10 meetings)
Up to two Section/Branch/Student Chapter Visits (1-2 days + Travel)
President & Governors Forum (3 days + Travel) (Only once per term)
Region Committee Assignments (Average 2 hours per month)
What is a Region Governor term?
A Region 8 Governor serves a three-year term. Governors are expected to remain active and engaged throughout their full term, attending required meetings, participating in regional initiatives, and supporting the growth and success of Sections, Branches, and Younger Member groups.
Who is eligible to be a Region Governor?
To be eligible for the office of Geographic Region Governor, a candidate must meet the following criteria:
Be a member in good standing with the Society.
Have an address of record within the region being represented.
Have prior leadership experience such as:
having served as a Section or Branch officer, or
having served on a Section or Branch committee, or
having served on a Standing Board or Society-level committee.
The candidate shall not currently be serving as, or seeking nomination for, a Technical Region Governor role.
